According to a report by the Associated Press, consumer spending saw the largest gain in August in almost 8 years, due in large part to the Cash for Clunkers program.

Martin Crutsinger, economic writer for the AP writes, “The big jump in consumer spending, which accounts for 70 percent of total economic activity, is a good indication that the economy was returning to positive growth this summer.”

I think the above is a good sign and am hopeful things will continue upward.

The second point I would like to make occurred  on CNN’s Rick Sanchez’ show today. It was reported that Democrat Baucus who wrote the junk bill regarding helath care reform has received over $1.7 million from the health industry since 2005. Hmmm most interesting.

Also, those who voted for a Public Option in health care reform have been give $3.5 million from the health industry….while those who opposed it received over $10 million from the health industry.

The wallets are open and the money is flowing and it’s not for the common person folks. What do you think?

  1. This whole health-care scenario borders on being vulgar. It's really disgusting. With the divorce rate over 50% – many hard-working upstanding people are being left holding the bag on health care. I heard some republicans actually say in a senate meeting that "there are programs for people" like medicaid – so all of you hard-working people who have recently divorced or lost your jobs and saved for your kids and provided a life and home – just spend down to medicaid, dump your house and you get everything for free….!! Then we can have a whole country full of people like that…. I guess that's the direction we should be going in… right???? This is ridiculous…..lots of problems with health care – one being that we are 'illness' driven instead of 'wellness' driven….A pill for every problem…..and running to the doctor for every little sniffle instead of using some common sense…..I can go on and on but this is way out of control. NO one should be without health care… it costs more money to take care of an illness than to keep someone healthy….it's a no brainer….we spend all this money helping rebuild other countries but some people in our government just can't understand the concept of taking care of your "own". I have to stop before I get on a rampage. I guess there's just no $$ to be made….it's really ugly.
